2024 Season - Open / Closed

Travelling through the brush, you emerge onto a small plot of land. Therein lies a cottage, and a small patch of various gourds and pumpkins! Under further inspection, however, things aren't exactly what they seem...

General Information, rules, disclaimer

What are the cucu?

The cucu are a species of faerie which are born when the love of a gardener brings their crop to life, beyond the normal bounds known by manvarying in colour, texture, size and shape but keeping to a seemingly constant basic bodyplan of 4 legs, hooves, no teeth and colourful markings, they make for delightful companionsCucu also are asexual! They manifest, not breed. So "producing/breeding" cucu is possible! Just not sexually. To produce a cucu, grow your chosen gourd/pumpkin and give it as much love and care as possible, and you will grow a small cucu friend which will develope over time!

Starting as an abnormally large flower, growing singularly on a plant, the cucu begins developing as the bulb under the flower with the vine attached to the nose. As it grows it begins taking the form of an adult with the flower on it's rear where a tail would be. The flower withers in time, the cucu continuing to develop into what will soon detach from the vine and become your little harvest friend! When their eventual time comes for them to pass away, they will lay to rest and reveal a tangle of branches in place of a skeleton, and feed the land around them for the next year, or in some rare cases, dry out and live on where they can be carved, painted, ect!

What are the rules?

The general rules of the species are simple, and easy to follow! They are as follows:- All cucu are made custom and one of a kind. Though multiple of one gourd/squash exist, I will never replicate a past one precisely
- Cucu are always a set price, and I ask that they remain that price even if they gain additional art
- Different forms and shapes do not have rarities, so feel free to ask for fun stuff!
- They are not to be used to make NFT’s, used to train AI, or for commercial use
- Please do not create your own cucu! They are a closed personal species!
- have loads of fun! :D

The disclaimer…

With all this said, I do want to make something extremely clear. I did not invent pumpkin/gourd inspired creatures. I simply have my own version of them that I like to share every year. If you make your own, please feel free to do what feels right! Just please do not steal current designs 1x1 or claim that your design is a cucu. That is all!

the colours and patterns of the cucu

Base Colouration

Every cucu is unique, even the ones of the same species of pumpkin or gourd. Variation is a fun game! They all however follow a set series of patterns and colours, which can be mixed and matched. Below are the most common ones!

Acceptable and unacceptable colours

Some colours, however, are considered unacceptable or acceptable, depending on how close to the real plants they are. Keep in mind these colour rules are SUGGESTIONS and not 100% solid, as some pumpkins have peachy pinks and variations of the tones. These are still allowed just avoid “sparkledog” colours

Colour Palette

These colours are acceptable and encouraged

These colours are not acceptable and not permitted

Flat

The base colour of cucu that makes them one flat colour throughout. This is very simple, but very endearing especially with the pumpkins!

Split

The base colour of cucu that makes them have a split in their center around the belly area of half one tone half another. It's always crisp edged, no blending for this colour form

Gradient

The base colour of cucu that makes them have a gradient along the body. This can be one gradient across the entire body, a fade by the head or neck, or somewhere else along the main body line

Points

The base colour of cucu that makes them have a series of points where the colour either darkens, lightens, or changes entirely at the tips of the body (legs, head, and where applicable, the tail)

Markings and Patterns

Alongside the base colours that cover the entire body are the markings and patterns that accent each individual cucu. These have a wide range and often mix with the other markings to create unique combos. Look to real gourds and pumpkins for inspiration and ideas!

Ticking

A pattern that creates markings of small flecks across the entire body. These are subtle and not very many, sometimes with gradients or such they will be the same colour as one of the base colours

Spotting

A pattern that creates markings of spots all over the body, like a dalmatian. These can cluster and male blotches as well! Often these will be under variegated markings, creating some cool effects

Watercolour

A pattern that creates markings of splashes of soft marks resembling a paint horse, but more subtle and blurred. These are often along the extremities and belly, but can be anywhere else

Striping

A pattern that creates markings of stripes all over the cucu's body. These usually run lengthwise from head to tail, but variants have been seen. These stripes can be most colours, except white

Variegation

A pattern that creates markings of a wide variety of shapes, patterns, ect but always in a light cream or white. These overlay the other patterns quite often, or are just chaotically marked around the body
